Hello Waterford Township School District Family,
My name is Charlotte Richardson, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal of Waterford Elementary School. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and later a Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Rowan University. I take pride in my path to becoming an educator as it was not the traditional route, nor was it my first career choice. Initially, I found that my calling was to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities living in a group home setting. It wasn’t until I transferred to the children and adolescent program that I realized I was meant to work with children, so I decided to pursue a career in public education. I join the Waterford Township School District with 15 years of experience as a special education teacher in the Millville School District and extensive experience understanding child development and the science of behavior.
Education is the key to success. Our responsibility is to provide a safe learning environment where students can express themselves meaningfully as they learn in various settings during the school day. As educators, we are tasked with allowing children to be children while we guide them to make choices that affect their learning, social and emotional well-being, and future success. Equally important are the teachable moments when our students make choices that don’t deliver the desired outcomes. We will strive to allow students to respond to their choices and develop through reflection and discussing accountability to build character. It is one of the most important jobs as educators to work closely with parents and guardians to set limits and positive expectations so our children can succeed.
I am excited to begin this chapter of my career working with the staff, students, and families of Waterford Township to ensure we prepare our children for all stages of life as they learn, grow, and nurture relationships. Go Wildcats!
